We typically recommend dental sedation for patients who:

  • Are overstimulated by the sights, sounds, and smells of the dental office.
  • Have had bad past experiences at a dental office.
  • Require more complex or extensive dental work.
  • Have very sensitive teeth, making treatment uncomfortable.
  • Have difficulty getting numb.
  • Experience a strong gag reflex that makes dental cleanings and treatments difficult.
  • Has a disability that makes sitting in the treatment chair difficult.

How Does Oral Conscious Sedation Dentistry Work?

Oral conscious sedation in Braintree is simple and fast-acting. Before your appointment, or whenever you arrive at our office, we’ll prescribe you a single pill to take. Typically, the medication is in the diazepam family, like Valium. Within about 30 minutes, you’ll feel the calming effects kick-in, helping you feel much more at-ease while you’re in our care. You’ll also be able to respond to us throughout your procedure and answer any questions we may ask. The effects of the medication can linger for several hours following your appointment, so we recommend having a trusted friend or family member planned to pick you up.
